Magazine Survey Results Analysis

Firstly the genre my magazine will be focused on will be punk rock, this is because it outvoted the others and was closely followed by rock which is a similar genre of music anyway, punk is just an offspring of rock.

Many people go to gigs often so I will assume that they would want information of upcoming gigs in the area local to them e.g. UEA or the waterfront. I could include a schedule with line-ups and tour information, this is what people that often attend gigs would want to see as there are not many ways of finding out about live performances in the local area.

The costing of the magazine will be £2.50, though more voted for £4+ it is only by one vote. Four voted for each of £1.50-£1.99, £2.00-£2.49 and £2.50- £2.99, so twelve votes for in between £1.50- £3.00. This also allows me to produce the magazine at a more frequent basis considering they voted for every fortnight, they won’t buy every fortnight for £4+.

Freebies as expected is wanted within the magazine considering three quarters voted to include freebies, so music related items such as a CD for example will be included.

For regular features upcoming festivals and latest music gossip, this is due to the fact these were the highest voted on what they prefer to read about in magazines. Others follow close behind so interviews with artists will also be included considering there is only one vote within it. Another regular feature I will include in my music magazine will be the latest music charts, considering not a lot of people get their update of the charts from magazines but apparently from friends instead, so they need a new place in order to get their updates on music. But four did say that they get it from the internet which is only 2 votes off friends, so this indicates a multiplatform product should be created in order to fulfil the needs of the general population.

Distribution will take place in multiple places, the library and high street retailers got equally the most votes considering these places are popular with students, which will be a large portion of my target audience. There are a few in other such as Costcutter, a local corner shop which is known to everyone as it is close and easy to get to so distribution will also take place in places similar to this.

Colours are an important factor as people are attracted to colour before reading anything so asking what people would like to be main house colours leads to a well-designed magazine in the eyes of my target audience. Red, Black and white had the most by quite a few votes compared to everything else, bold prime colours like these are all anyone wants when they look at a punk heavy magazine. Though a fourth colour will be incorporated for small details on the page in order to keep a bit more of a spectrum, so next voted was blue which also contrasts with the red nicely.

Bands and artists that they would like to see in the magazine were fairly similar to one another with the likes of Sum 41, Blink 182 and sex pistols etc… coming up quite frequently, leads to the belief that they want bands of similar taste, considering quite a number were mentioned and the highest voted was punk artists in comparison to rappers and pop writers.
